Kau not worried about competition

VETERAN comedian David Kau, who just got back from the UK, isn't bothered by other events that will take place on the same day as his Blacks Only show this weekend.

Kau is adamant that his loyal followers will flock to Emperors Palace come Saturday.

Kau was part of Nigerian Basketmouth's tour of the UK, which saw them performing in Manchester last week Friday, London's Apollo on Valentine's Day and Birmingham the following day.

"It was fantastic, but it wasn't my first time playing overseas so it wasn't difficult getting the crowd to laugh because about 90% of the audience was Nigerian," said Kau.

He now has his sights focused on the 11th annual Blacks Only, which has served as a great platform for many established South African comics.

This year's line-up has a great balance of new and familiar names. People can expect to see Kagiso Lediga, Tall Ass Mo, Joey Rasdien and last year's best newcomer at the Comic's Choice Awards, Loyiso Mandinga.

"We'll also try [to] add one white comedian," said Kau candidly.

But the show happens on the same day as the Metro FM awards in Durban, the Marula festival as well as Mpho Popps Modikoane's one-man show, Exhibition A, at the Lyric Theatre.

But Kau isn't bothered by the competing events.

"You can't compare Blacks Only with Popps, even though he's making a name for himself on TV but even Popps made a name for himself here at Blacks Only.

"I'm also not too worried about the Metro awards because Blacks Only has its own audience," he said.
