There will be no SAFTA awards for the soapie that once held the title of SA’s most popular show’ this year.
According to the organisers of the South African Film & Television Awards Nominations, Generations was not included ‘due to the soapie being off the televisions screens for a considerable amount of time’.
The soap was taken off air for 3 months last year following the strike and subsequent firing of 16 of the show’s top actors.
However the slight downfall of the soap seems to have given drama series Skeem Saam the boost it needed to get some well deserved recognition.
Isibaya, Isidingo, Skeem Saam and 7de Laan received the most nominations in Soapie Categories.
Main soap categories such as the Best actor and actress are hotly contested with the best in the industry vying for the titles.
Best Actor in a lead Role -TV Soap nominees are: Jamie Bartlett, Motlatsi Mafatshe, Bongani Gumede while Masasa Mbangeni, Kgomotso Christopher, Tema Sebopedi, Desiree Gardner and Brumilda Van Rensburg have received nods in the Best Actress in a lead Role - TV Soap category.
Presenters have also been given a chance to shine this year with the addition of the Best Presenter Award.
Thembi Seete, Bonang Matheba, Lungile Radu, Phat Joe and Jeremy Maggs have been nominated in that category.
The award ceremony will take place on the 20 and 22 March 2015.
