'Thinking Out Loud' hitmaker Ed Sheeran crashed his car during his appearance on the BBC show 'Top Gear'.

The 'Thinking Out Loud' hitmaker doesn't own a driving licence, but was happy to take to the road for the BBC TV show 'Top Gear'.

However, the outing didn't go as planned, as Ed skidded off the circuit at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey, England, while attempting to complete the 'Star in a Reasonably Priced Car' challenge.

Prior to filming the show, the 23-year-old star took to Twitter to preview his appearance. He wrote: ''I'm driving for the first time ever today, on a race track, on tv. Wish me luck. (sic)'' Later, he added: ''Had a brilliant time filming top gear today.

Tune in on Sunday.'' Meanwhile, it was confirmed recently that Ed is to perform at this year's Grammy Awards.

He will be among the many big-name acts who take to the stage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 8. The Brit has been nominated for three awards: Album Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for 'x', as well as Best Song Written For Visual Media for 'I See Fire', which appears on the end credits for 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug'.
