Pearl Modiadie says that she did not expect to win Sowetan LIVE’s Mzansi’s Sexiest because she was never allowed to be sexy growing up.
She said because the kiddies shows she used to do did not allow her to be sexy she also ended up not viewing herself as sexy.
“For so long I was not allowed to be sexy. When you do kids television you are not allowed to be sexy. You must be cute, you must be fun and funny.
“So I didn’t expect to win because for a long time I was the cute chubby girl, I was fun, I was quirky and I was colourful. Sexy wasn’t one of the words I would have used to describe myself so it did come as a shock,” said Pearl.
Pearl says that she has now grown to view herself as sexy and that the title is a show that she is indeed sexy.
“Winning feels amazing, very surreal. Yes I was part of the top 12, yes I campaigned but I didn’t think that the number that voted was going to vote,” she said.
Pearl says that the title will not make her change her life in any way as it proves that whatever she has been doing until now works in her favour.
“I am not going to do anything different. I think through it all I have been myself I am not about to change anything I am not about to try be sexy now because of this title. I am just going to do me and I have been doing me and people saw the sexy in me.”
Many people would have expected Pearl to come dressed in sexy revealing dress that would have left very little to imagine but she had other thoughts.
“What inspired my outfit was actually my hair because I am trying to look like a boy; I don’t know what phase I am going through. Whatever I wear I just try to look like a boy and I thought I would wear a suit because I didn’t think any other person would be rocking it and I feel sexy in this,” she said.
“I guess it is just me as well saying that you don’t have to wear revealing stuff to feel sexy. I feel damn sexy. I am sexy.”
She said that she cannot wait to see the 2015 calendars.
“I can’t wait to see what images were actually used for the calendar. I did a lingerie and a fun shot with shorts and a crop top and I did a formal one as well. So I can’t wait to see which images they will use.”
