'Idols' finalist Zana 'amped' to work with Bala

SULTRY Capetonian and Idols season nine finalist Zoe Zana aims to scale the charts with her collaboration with R&B crooner and master producer Loyiso Bala.

She performed her debut single Bulletproof on Sunday at theIdols SA Top 8 as a taste of things to come.

"I am extremely amped about working with Loyiso. He is brilliant, hard-working and always willing to listen to what I really want," she said.

"The sound of this amazing song is very different from what our country is listening to right now."

Bulletproof was written specially for her by Swedish and South African writers based in Langa, Cape Town. Music school Musikmakarna, funded by the Swedish government, was looking for unsigned and previously disadvantaged writers from Cape Town to give it a chance in the music industry.

Her second single, You Make Me Whole, was released on Monday via Loyiso Music. She said she hoped to release her full album at the beginning of 2015.

"For now we are still building momentum. It is a process and I don't like rushing. It is not always the best route," said Zana.

The singer has been working hard with Bala towards establishing her solo career. She said she was happy about what she has achieved so far. A further two singles are set to be released before the end of the year.

"My journey has been filled with ups and downs but the experience is unexplainable. [Bala] has already earned that respect and it is easier for me now that I am under his wing and [he is] guiding my career," said Zana.
