The timeless sound of Black Motion

Ever heard of timeless house sounds, if yes, then there is no prologue needed for Black Motion.

It’s amazing how a unit that started producing in a bedroom shack has flourished into international stars.

Their success story took off on an international level something unusual, because one would expect success of local musicians to start it in their country then go abroad.

However for Black Motion it’s a vice-versa story, they were International stars before introducing themselves to the South African music space.

Duo Thabo ‘Smol Mabogwane and Robert ‘Murdah’ Mahosana were travelling in Africa, gigging in Angola when DJ Oskido discovered them.

“Our career started overseas. We used to distribute our songs on the internet on Afrodisiac, this is where our journey began.

“International promoters started booking us as they loved the kind of sound we were doing.

“We mostly played in Angola and Portugal for a year and that is where Oskido found us.”

Oskido amazed by their song ‘Banane Mavoko’, he pleaded they come home Mzansi to release their songs.

“He saw us performing ‘Banane Mavoko’ and he was shocked to find out that we were from SA. He told us to come back home and push our stuff in SA.”

They pioneered the Tribal sound in Angola through installations of live drum performances in house music.

“We taught Angola our music and now they are also doing tribal sound,” the duo said.

Murdah who usually spins the songs on the deck when Smol is caught up in beating the drums says they are not DJs.

“I am not a DJ nor is Smol, we are story tellers, composers and entertainers through musical performances,” he says.

“When on stage we become something else. Black Motion is great at performing and delivering a unique set at events.”

Murdah amongst the pair is the craziest on stage he multitasks whilst on set; he spins the songs, jumps on top of the deck, dances and shakes the audience in one time.

The tribal house music duo has finally dropped their much anticipated third album, Fortune Teller.
