PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma's singing and dancing skills have earned him the admiration of a renowned music superstar.

Kwasa kwasa music great Kanda Bongoman told Sowetan he is a big fan of Zuma's musical skills.

Zuma is renowned for moving audiences with his powerful rendition of struggle songs.

"I have not seen an African leader who sings and dances like him. I am his fan," said Bongoman who has never met Zuma.

The Democratic Republic of Congo star is billed to perform at the annual Royal Heritage Celebrations to be held in Nandoni outside Thohoyandou, Limpopo, on Saturday.

The annual event is hosted by Venda King Toni Mphephu.

It also includes King Mphephu's Fun Walk as well as the Royal Traditional Boxing (musangwe) matches.

"The bare knuckle fights showcases the fearlessness of Vhavenda warriors," said a statement attributed to King Mphephu.

The celebrated artist and his band are already rehearsing in Johannesburg.

"I will be bringing enough guys and girls to dance and give the people a treat to remember," he said.

Bongoman said he was happy to perform in Thohoyandou before embarking on an international tour that will take him to England, Ethiopia and Belgian.

"My song (In the Morning) is very popular in South Africa and obviously is one of the hits I will play," said Bongoman, who boasts 14 successful albums.

He said he identified himself with the South African struggle for liberation and he admired former president Nelson Mandela.

"I contributed to the struggle to have Mandela freed through the microphone as I performed in concerts demanding his freedom," he said.

He said he was unlucky that he was not able to meet Mandela personally.

He said although he spends most of his time touring the world, particularly Europe, he likes Africa.

After the tour he plans to meet Xitsonga music idol Thomas Chauke.

"I wish to record a song with him, and we haven't met," he said.
