Metro FM line up: Bonang replaces Siphokazi January

Bonang Matheba has formally joined the Metro FM family.

With the radio station yet to release the official line-up, listeners have been left wondering whether January has been fired from the station or if she has just moved to a new time slot.

PR company DNA Brand Architects confirmed that Bonang Matheba will now be hosting a show on the 9am to 12pm slot.

“Yes, Bonang has joined Metro FM and she will be doing a weekly show from 9am to 12pm, Zoe Msutwana said.

Matheba who recently left YFM after almost 6 years, had this to say: “I will always be grateful for my time at YFM, because that is where my love for radio was birthed. After being there for 5 years, it was time for me to explore other avenues in my quest to take my broadcasting career to new heights. Metro FM is without a doubt the perfect platform for this”.

The Queen B also shared the news on social media: “Proud to announce my new radio show, The Front Row!! Starts today at 9am on @METROFMSA”.

Our sister paper SundayWorld quoted a source last week who said that the radio station was looking for someone to bring back the ratings they lost since Azania’s move to Power FM.

"It appears that we've lost audiences since Azania left. There is a feeling that she took her listeners with her when she went to Power.

"We needed someone with the presence and reputation like Bonang to go to war in that precious slot, the insider was quoted saying.

Bonang's debut this morning was met with mixed reviews on social media.

The radio station is set to announce replacements for Carol Ralefeta and Sakina Kamwendo who presented their last shows this week.

“After 3 years with Metro FM, I broadcasted my last show last night 30 March 2014. It has been an amazing 3 years with the station and look forward to coming back in the future”, Ralefeta wrote on her website.

Several attempts were made to contact Metro FM to find out about Siphokhazi's future, but to no avail.
