Inaugural Trace Urban Music Awards

TO CELEBRATE our 10th anniversary, Trace Urban, in partnership with Canal Sat, honoured musicians at the first Trace Urban Music Awards launched in Paris.

There couldn't have been a better place to launch these prestigious awards for a music channel that's enjoyed in more than 160 countries.

We decided to launch the first edition of these annual awards where Trace TV originates from, in France. "I'm very proud that the first ever Trace Urban Music Awards took off with no hiccups. The response from the public has also been overwhelming," said Trace TV CEO Olivier Laouchez.

Nine hundred guests, including 80 artists from both Europe and South Africa, witnessed a spectacular night with great performances from Admiral T, Axel Tony and more.

The awards were also aired live to 45 countries and this number is set to increase at the next awards. South African award-winning songstress Lira was also flown to Paris for the awards where she presented Fally Ipupa with the best African Act award.

The Face of Trace TV, model Joelle Kayembe, also attended the awards to present the Trace Foundation awards to Gabonese singer Patience Dabany for her work with the youth.

With 10 categories and 25 nominated artists, the best of the very best in music were honoured and given the recognition they deserve by Trace Urban.

Viewers played a huge role in deciding who walked away with an award on the night. The voting process was done via the Trace Urban Music Awards website www.tracemusicawards.com, which is linked to our Facebook page, collecting a total of over 600000 votes.

In years to come, the Trace Urban Music Awards will be hosted at different venues across the world. SA might be next.
