'These Streets' singers Mi Casa will join local music heavyweight Lira in performing for US President Barack Obama next month.

Lead singer JSomething, whose real name is Joao Fonseca, confirmed that they would be at the first of several inauguration balls for Obama on January 21 at the Mead Centre for American Theatre in Washington.

"We are so blessed. It is such an honour," he said.

He explained that a meeting with the ambassador of Botswana, a "very big fan", had played a role in their being chosen to perform.

Fonseca said the threesome never expected the success and popularity they have gained during such a short time in the entertainment industry.

"It was just a dream - but this year we've had about 300 concerts," he said.

The band will be busy this festive season with concerts in Botswana, Mozambique and on home shores.

"We're spending Christmas in a van. The day before we'll be in Mozambique. We literally have a concert a day for December.

On New Year's Eve we will perform at Emperors Palace [in Kempton Park]," Fonseca said.

In the new year the band will work on new music that is expected to be released in June.

In the meantime, fans can look out for their new video, titled Can't Get Enough.

The group is hoping the Obama inauguration performance will help them get more exposure and boost their online presence.
