HUGH Masekela is known for disliking weaves and has on several occasions refused to take pictures next to women with fake hair.

He believes culture must not just be preached but be practised on a daily basis.

He is proud of his parents. His mother was a Social Worker and his father a Health Inspector.

Masekela only got his own bed when he was 12 years old. That was when he went to boarding school at what was then St Peter's Secondary School, now St Martin's High School in Rosettenville. This is because his parents always accommodated kids from disadvantaged backgrounds in their home.
