Dr Malinga hits his special stride
'Kick style' grips audience
MUSIC lovers came out in force to support African artists on Saturday night when Soweto hosted the Channel O Music Video Awards for the first time.
The event, at Walter Sisulu Square, was broadcast live.
Performances by the likes of Dr Malinga alongside Black Motion and Africa's koko master D'Banj attracted standing ovations.
Kalawa Jazmee artist Dr Malinga had the crowd abuzz with his dynamic kick dance routine.
Looking like a jumping jack, he mixed African dance moves with ballet-like precision.
Dr Malinga became a trending topic on Twitter as soon as he introduced his flamboyant style, with local celebrities soon calling him "The Boss" on the social network.
Many people in the audience started copying his kick style.
Dr Malinga says his unique dance style is called the "linga".
"I am just dancing the way I want. I create those dance moves randomly as I perform. I call it the linga because I'm inspired by my crowd laughing with pleasure."
Dr Malinga says he aims to get his own award at the event next year after releasing his album.

I differ, some classics are better left alone....I still prefer the old version.
