Selota keeps his shirt on

TOP STAYS ON: Jazz guitarist and singer Selaelo Selota gets the crowd going.

SELAELO Selota, who delivered an inspiring performance on Friday at Birchwood Hotel, is set to drop a new album early next year.

Selota, together with Zonke Dikana, comedian Jason Goliath and the Julia Lamberti Jazz Band, performed at the monthly Oude Meester Ekurhuleni Comes Alive jazz evening.

The singer did his best despite the poor sound quality, and his signature animated gyrations got the whole arena dancing.

"As a professional musician you are expected to deliver a good performance whether the sound is good or bad. Birchwood is doing a great job for exposing people to live music. All promoters should be doing the same by hosting live performances," Selota said.

The singer, who last released an album three years ago, said he has has been in the studio recording a new CD. The offering will drop early next year.

"On the upcoming album I have moved away from the songs that people know me for. I am tackling serious social issues."

Selota received an award from Birchwood Hotel for being the only musician who has performed at the venue more than 10 times .

"The token of appreciation that I have received means the venue has exposed my music to a wider audience."

As someone who always takes off his shirt while performing, Friday was a bit of a disappointment for his female fans because he kept his top on.

"While changing I realised that my nine-pack was gone. I was looking a bit shabby. I did not want to expose people to such an unsightly sight," Selota joked.
