Lundi caught up in church CD feud
Gospel star Lundi Tyamara is embroiled in an ugly squabble that has divided the New Church of Southern Africa in Orlando, Soweto.
Trouble apparently started when the 36-year-old Tyamara was booked by Reverend Fats Montsho - the church overseer - to be the crowd-puller when the church's choir launches its CD.
According to a source who preferred not to be named, when the choir members heard that Tyamara was going to be paid, they called a meeting on Monday and demanded that Montsho pay them as well.
The source said the choir also accused Montsho of using them for his personal enrichment.
"On Monday the church choir had a meeting with the reverend where they made it clear that they were not going to take part if they were not paid.
"Posters advertising the event - scheduled to take place on September 29 - were removed overnight by unknown people," the source said.
Montsho confirmed the incident and said the choir's complaint was not justified because he was trying to help them.
He said he had decided to cancel the CD launch.
"I have also instructed the people who recorded the CD to delete it. We have scrapped the whole thing because the choir is misbehaving and ungrateful," Montsho said.
Choir leader Peggy Ndabeni confirmed that the CD launch had been cancelled because "there were a lot of disagreements, including Tyamara's scheduled performance".
Tyamara's manager, Tshepo Nzimande, said the artist's legions of loyal fans were hugely disappointed after they were informed, via Facebook, that the CD launch had been cancelled.
"We are very disappointed because we were expecting the church to sort out this issue.
"This whole thing shows that a lot of people have no clue of how the music industry works," Nzimande said.
"It is a great disappointment to Lundi's loyal fans and to the company because the CD launch was going to be a platform to show that Tyamara is back at his best and dedicated to his career."
Unholy war:

Ok reverend why did you not make it clear from the on set that you are not going to pay the choir because they are not famous and they are new to the industry, but they will be paid when they are booked for shows!!! You are paying Lundi because he is not new to the industry and he is a crowd puller and they (the choir) are not. Bad planning and poor communication kills projects!!Report Abuse

@THEmadame2B-BBEEWhat does this article have to do with Lundi's sexual orientation. Gay bashing on a national platform so early in the morning does not do it for me. We have a lot of things to worry about than homophobia in a country as diverse as South Africa.

@MorenawapoleloThe reverend didnt do anything wrong, we cant really say Bad planning and poor communication kills projects!! This people should have known before they sing in the choir
How do you pay people to promote themselves that is pure madness, part of the contracts is that you avail yourself for promotions either in Malls or festivals or anywhere for free. It doesnt mean all artists performing at the concerts or festivals get paid. If ur new or unknown its the platform u must use to promote yourself free of charge
As Tshepo said, people dont understand how the music industry works.

Most of you guys are less informed about the music industry, how can you be paid for your own CD launch? They paid Lundi so as to pull the crowd to come and listen to the Choir who is actualy unknow.Report Abuse

Madame: Please rein in that rampant homophobia. It isn't very useful, or dignified. Not that rational either. But then rationale is in short supply a lot of the time.Report Abuse

This article leaves much to be desired bearing in mind it involves the Church choir and a Priest. Hanging their dirty linen in public.Where money is involved there`s a lot of hypocrisy. A man of robe went on to delete the whole music that might have taken ages and a lot of resources to compile. I have always thought Gospel singers are sons and daughters of the lord Jesus and they are community role models as they always lead by example. After reading this article I am completely lost and confused. Why do you need a crowd puller when launching a church choir disc? To me this is all about money. If it was about preaching and spreading the word of god, really we shouldn't `t be reading about this greedy article.
Sowetan what church is this again?

rebathobamoya_wa_toro_ya_tholeI agree with you Sir what you are saying is similar to what Im saying if you do not tell all those things you mentioned in advance is bad communication and if there are no contracts or a firm understanding but the posters are already out then that is bad planning!!!
