Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse's dashed hope
Matric results delayed until 27 July
The music legend signed up at Peter Lengene Adult Basic Education Training School at Thaba-Jabula Secondary School in Klipspruit, Soweto, to get his Matric certificate.
This is the first step towards his ultimate education goal - a masters degree in anthropology.
Mabuse dropped out of school at Grade 11 in 1969 to pursue his music career as a member of the then popular Afro-funk group Harari.
He said hitting the limelight as a musician made him to lose focus on his studies. However, despite his achievements as a musician, Mabuse always felt incomplete without education.
On his Twitter page, Mabuse at first shared his happiness at finally getting a final school leaving certificate, saying: "A new week with new possibilities, if you have an open mind. Today I get my ‪Matric‬ results.. This student is excited".
But later in the day, he announced: "I just have just been to the school at 13h00 and the principal Japie Masombuka of the Peter Lengene Adult learning Centre has told me the Education Dept is only giving the results on 27 July. Sorry my friends".
ED'S NOTE: Let's hope he aced the tests, so when he finally sees his marks he will be happy!
