Thandiswa Mazwai jets off to New York
Afro-jazz singer Thandiswa Mazwai will add to her list of outstanding achievements when she joins the legendary Paul Simon on his Graceland 25th Anniversary Tour.
Since Thandiswa burst into the music scene she has became widely recognized as the voice of South Africa’s conscious youth.
The Graceland tour coincides with the release of Paul Simon’s 25th Anniversary Edition of the award-winning album, during which Thandiswa will perform the duet “Under African Skies” with Paul.
The four-disc deluxe version of Graceland’s new edition adds a few songs and a full concert of Simon’s Graceland world tour, a collection of videos and most significantly, Joe Berlinger’s documentary 'Under African Skies, the making of the of the album'.
The tour starts in Dublin, Ireland on July 12th, and ends in Bergen, Norway on July 26th. One of the highlights will be a show at London’s Hyde Park on Sunday July 15th in front of at least 50,000 fans.
Other South African artists in this project are, among others, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Ray Phiri, Barney Rachabane and Cape Town-born multi-instrumentalist Tony Cedras.
While in New York, Thandiswa also hopes to prepare for the recording of her new album later in the year, working with some of The Big Apple’s hot young musicians.
