Pirates coin it on Mad Buddies

Jun 21, 2012 | Sbusiso Shongwe | 27 comments

MAD Buddies, the latest big screen comedy by funny men Leon Schuster and Kenneth Nkosi, is seeming so sought after that its cover is being used by conmen to swindle gullible people.

HILARIOUS: Funnymen Leon Schuster and Kenneth Nkosi in action in the movie 'Mad Buddies'.

Sowetan got word that DVD copies of the movie, which is due out in cinemas country-wide tomorrow, were already out on the streets.

But it turned out the shysters had used the movie's cover on the sleeves of fake DVDs containing video material from crooner Ringo Madlingozi's top albums.

When told that his songs - including Ekhaya, Into Yami, and Sondela Sthandwa - were in the fake DVDs, Madlingozi could only exclaim: "Oh no!"

"You are not serious. I am not aware of such a thing. I am hurt . really, really hurt."

Chief executive of the South African Federation Against Copyright Theft, Corne Guldenpfennig, said stringent security measures had ensured that no fake Mad Buddies DVDs would be on the streets.

Piracy is not theft in South Africa..
Theft is defined in South Africa ‘as the unlawful and intentional appropriation of movable, corporeal property which belongs to or is in possession of another with the intention to permanently deprive the person entitled to the possession of the property of such property

Not sure how to feel with this piracy thing anymore. past Saturday I bought an original Anthony Hamilton CD and listened to it Sat, Sunday and Monaday Morning. Took my car in for Service, I removed everything but the CD in the cd player. I only realised tuesday morning that the cd is gone....lucky bugger from the delearship and R149 down the drain.

Piracy? i dont know any more, I could have bought myself 15 AH cds

I say government must regulate the stop of selling blank CD/DVD copies. I know that these copies are also used for data and photos, but people can use USB sticks to transfer data from computers.

Look, you can't copy songs to a USB disk and sell the whole thing for R10, USB disk is expensive. People will be forced to buy_ original music/movies.

@DJWinner , trying to regulate blank CD/DVD copies is like trying to regulate people who make bin plastics...

blank CD/DVD copies are not used only for music but data storage in various industries.
