I still feel that, instead of moving forward—the world is going backwards

Simphiwe Dana, one of Africa’s most prominent recording artists is set to release an exclusive digital single on June 16th 2012 entitled “State Of Emergency”.  The single will be available exclusively for digital download only from June 16th 2012 on Vodafone Live - SMS “SIMPHIWE” to 31116.

The new single “State of Emergency” was written in commemoration of June 16th 1976 student uprising in Soweto.

“The year, 1976, was a gruesome time in South Africa. I'm still haunted by Apartheid images of state-endorsed black-on-black violence and the status quo of dehumanization. I still feel that—instead of moving forward—the world is going backwards. This song addresses the 1976 uprisings and social injustices which are occurring around the world today,” says Simphiwe Dana.

Her strong and impassioned beliefs in the betterment of the African people have seen her play a huge role in the restoration and evolution of African culture and its mores.

Simphiwe Dana began her career in early 2004 with the release of her debut album Zandisile which achieved platinum-plus status in South Africa.  With Zandisile, Simphiwe Dana took home the prestigious “Best Newcomer” award in 2004’s MTN Sama Awards.  Her second album The One Love Movement On Bantu Biko Street achieved Gold Status and won MTN Sama “Album Of The Year” in 2007.

Her third album, “Kulture Noir” not only achieved Gold Status, but also boasts the Metro FM Music Awards for Best Produced Album and Best Female Artist. This paved the way further for one of today’s most critically acclaimed and cherished performers, having multiple releases around the world including Germany, UK and USA.

Dana performed across Europe and Germany and later returned to South Africa to record her live “An Evening With Simphiwe Dana” concert at the Lyric Theater in late 2010.  The live sell out performance offered several standing ovations as the talented superstar performed in concert with a 27-Piece orchestra, filmed for release on DVD, Double CD and Blu-Ray – again taking home yet another MTN Sama Award for the category “Best Live DVD” release for 2011.

She continues to advocate for a new political discourse through her numerous writings, such as the language debate she opened recently when she called for the recognition of a single South African indigenous language as an official language.

The new single will debut on Metro FM on June 15th on Total Bliss and has already been set for high rotation thereafter. The lyric-video for “State Of Emergency will also debut on Youtube on June 16th 2012.
