Re the fad of celebs adopting. I do accept that the kids get amazing propulsion forward in life, and with that I have no beef, but I think one must be little sceptical about their real motives. It really does smack of fashion accessory in many cases. Sure, a well cared for accessorie, but accessory nonetheless. To me race is not the issue. Poverty occurs everywhere. RobinH, grandson will be the biggest blessing ever. I was so upset when I heard I'm becoming grandma, but no words can describe how they crawl under your skin. Mine's 9 mths now. You'll soon know what I'm talking about. Fact though. All over the world white babies are near impossible to adopt. There are just so few of them. My one acquintance waited 14 years, and was then too old. I also don't quite believe the flaunting story. The poor celebs are haunted by papparazzi, especially once they have adopted, that it often can seem like flaunting. Social services (in SA) will also first try to place babies with parents as close to their race as possible before they'll consider other races. MuAfro. I would rather not see this in a racial light, and I don't think comparing "cultural background" is very useful. Those kids now have a new cultural background. None were forcibly removed from their parents and any parent starving in Somalia or wherever would welcome an opportunity for their child to escape the devastating downward spiral of African poverty. It is a phenomenon that exists. End of story.

People are free to adopt any race what counts is the love for the child no matter the race, it's only us black people who have restricted themselves to not seeing the possibility of raising a child from another race, so far the area were I stay I've seen 2 couples with deferent race babies at my local mall and both couples are white with black babies. For you to just assume that it is because they want to achieve a certian social status is very biased. What you have to remember, is to achieve success in a career, any career, takes a certain kind of mindframe. It takes a kind of person who thinks things through, then act upon it, and follow through relentlessly. Actors, successful actors certainly have that kind of mindframe, and maybe, just maybe, one in twenty of them might do it for social status ( but I'd rather see the hasbeens doing that), but the rest of them, I believe, do it because they want a baby, they either can't have one, or don't want to spoil their figure, and honestly want to make a difference in a poor child's life. That there are many, many more poor children of colour than there are poor white children, is another discussion altogether, the fact remains that there is, and they're making a difference drop by drop. I do not think this is about guilt at all. Anyone with a social conscience will be touched by the number of black babies in the system. Very few black people adopt black babies and most .w.h.i.t.e.s. do not want black babies. White babies are highly in demand and adopting parents will go as far as Russia to get a baby. So I say big up to the celebs who are taking these babies out of the system and obviously giving them the best opportunities.

Oldlady. Et tu in a way. I'm still living in anticipation. Grandson arrives in October, and he will be adorable, if genetics had anything to do with it, lol.Re the fad of celebs adopting. I do accept that the kids get amazing propulsion forward in life, and with that I have no beef, but I think one must be little sceptical about their real motives. It really does smack of fashion accessory in many cases. Sure, a well cared for accessorie, but accessory nonetheless. To me race is not the issue. Poverty occurs everywhere. So I am not trying to make it a racial issue, but rather am amused/bemused by the way many are flaunted, and here Charlise is rather exceptional.

RobinH, grandson will be the biggest blessing ever. I was so upset when I heard I'm becoming grandma, but no words can describe how they crawl under your skin. Mine's 9 mths now. You'll soon know what I'm talking about. Fact though. All over the world white babies are near impossible to adopt. There are just so few of them. My one acquintance waited 14 years, and was then too old. I also don't quite believe the flaunting story. The poor celebs are haunted by papparazzi, especially once they have adopted, that it often can seem like flaunting. And then to just have some privacy with their children, they give media interviews so they can be left alone afterwards. I don't want their lives.Report Abuse

Social services (in SA) will also first try to place babies with parents as close to their race as possible before they'll consider other races. MuAfro. I would rather not see this in a racial light, and I don't think comparing "cultural background" is very useful. Those kids now have a new cultural background. None were forcibly removed from their parents and any parent starving in Somalia or wherever would welcome an opportunity for their child to escape the devastating downward spiral of African poverty. It is a phenomenon that exists. End of story.Oldlady, I wouldn't have readily admitted it to many, but I have been wanting a grandchild from my daughter for some time now, so am thrilled to bits.

People are free to adopt any race what counts is the love for the child no matter the race, it's only us black people who have restricted themselves to not seeing the possibility of raising a child from another race, so far the area were I stay I've seen 2 couples with deferent race babies at my local mall and both couples are white with black babies.Report Abuse

They might have real concern for these kids, but we must not ignore the fact that they are still ACTORS and that they have an ulterior motive, pretty much like what RobinH said. For you to just assume that it is because they want to achieve a certian social status is very biased. What you have to remember, is to achieve success in a career, any career, takes a certain kind of mindframe. It takes a kind of person who thinks things through, then act upon it, and follow through relentlessly. Actors, successful actors certainly have that kind of mindframe, and maybe, just maybe, one in twenty of them might do it for social status ( but I'd rather see the hasbeens doing that), but the rest of them, I believe, do it because they want a baby, they either can't have one, or don't want to spoil their figure, and honestly want to make a difference in a poor child's life. That there are many, many more poor children of colour than there are poor white children, is another discussion altogether, the fact remains that there is, and they're making a difference drop by drop.Report Abuse

I think you guys have been in slumber the past 2 decades. or maybe you younger than 20, OMG my appologies kids.but just to fill you in a certain trend started when holywood actors achieved a certain status showing off Exotic Tigers, Snakes and Animals, It had shifted from stuff like houses cars etc. Now the lime light has been shown on ACtresses who have gone "out of their way" to adopt African babies, the likes of Madonna and Angelina. Why don't they adopt babies from their own countries? there are just as much impoverished children in the USA?
Ill tell you why and if you too thick to figure it out it aint my problem. social staus and public relations

I do not think this is about guilt at all. Anyone with a social conscience will be touched by the number of black babies in the system. Very few black people adopt black babies and most .w.h.i.t.e.s. do not want black babies. White babies are highly in demand and adopting parents will go as far as Russia to get a baby. So I say big up to the celebs who are taking these babies out of the system and obviously giving them the best opportunities.
