I love looking good - Stoan
STOAN SEATE fancies himself as the snappiest dresser in town.
Seate, whose real name is Serai, apparently takes more than an hour to get ready every day, something that annoys his wife Dolly.
When he has to dress up a bit for an event he usually knocks it out of the park.
Never seen with a single hair out of place, Seate believes it is "looks that maketh a man".
Born in North West, Seate's sense of style and boyish good looks haven't gone unnoticed. He has been featured in a multitude of best-dressed lists.
"I have always loved looking good since I was young, but my real passion for fashion and style developed when I started working as the face of Carducci. They really set the tone for me. Since hooking up with them I have made it my business to look good all the time," he said.
But the Motswana rapper says his ready-for-the-red-carpet looks are not the be all and end all.
Seate says there is more to him than just being elegant.
He is an actor, musician, TV presenter and dedicated husband and father of three girls - Malaika, Ayana and Zahara.
Seate's private life was placed under public scrutiny following his relationship with former lover and band-mate Thandiswa Mazwai, with whom he has a child.
The Afro Cafe presenter says being a celebrity makes family life and fatherhood very difficult.
"My private life is constantly under scrutiny. This has put a lot of strain on my children, who did not choose to have a father who is a celebrity. Journalists forget that I am a father before I am a celebrity. I'm the famous one, not my children. We do not intrude into journalists' private lives.
"We have a platform on social networks but we do not use them because we know it is morally wrong," Seate says.
How is his relationship with Mazwai and their child?
"I have an excellent relationship with both of them. Malaika knows I am her father and we love each other, but what her mother does with her life is her business," he says.
Seate says before Mazwai moved to London last year she discussed the move with him.
"She told me she wanted a change of scene and we agreed that they would be gone for a year," he says.
"The move has been good for Malaika. She has learnt a lot in the process."
He says being a father who is constantly in the public eye can hurt one's children.
Seate says it is even worse when both parents are in the spotlight.
"I prefer a situation where the mother is a non-celebrity. It makes life easy for all concerned," says Seate, whose wife is also his manager.
Seate recently made his interests public.
He says most people did not know that he had been an artist since Grade 1.
The 37-year-old, who studied graphic design at the AAA School of Advertising, has returned to art. He draws, paints and sculpts when he gets the time.
"I'm on the verge of launching my art career. I will be showcasing my work in a big exhibition in June.
"I also plan to supply local and international galleries. This has been my passion and dream. I cannot wait to see it coming to fruition," he said.
