Big Jamm now heads MLFM radio

STATION MANAGER: James Shikwambana
STATION MANAGER: James Shikwambana

MULTI-AWARD-winning former SABC sports presenter James Shikwambana is making career moves again.

Big Jamm, as Shikwambana is affectionately known, is back with radio Mughana-Lonene (MLFM) as station manager after serving Radio 2000 as station manager from April 2010.

It has been alleged that former MLFM station manager Tsakani Baloyi, who is currently communications officer for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, was put under pressure to leave, to pave the way for Shikwambana.

Big Jamm was born in rural Mulati, outside Tzaneen in Limpopo, in 1976. He always had a passion for radio and that helped him when he joined Munghana-Lonene FM as a freelance presenter in 1995.

"I don't want to behave as if we are starting a new radio station. Munghana has been in existence for 47 years. I am not joining the station with an arrogant attitude or mentality of trying to change what those before me have already done.

"I will sit down with the team and look at what worked and what did not work and we will map the way forward," Shikwambane said.

He won 22 awards during his broadcasting career, including Cosafa Cup commentator in 2002 and 2005. He was nominated for the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association in 2004.

Shikwambane was the first black radio journalist to win the SAB journalist of the year award in 2005.
