Search for TV action man begins

Feb 2, 2012 | Edward Tsumele | 30 comments

CELEBRITIES fell and fumbled but persevered as they huffed and puffed to overcome several obstacles as part of the thrill-a-minute launch of the SABC3 reality show - Bar One Manhunt.

But the show's actual participants are ordinary people possessing handsome-to-hunk looks, positive role model and local hero qualities in the mould of inaugural winner Clint de Beer.

Johannesburg salesman De Beer, 34, became the first Bar One Man and to achieve this feat he had to climb Africa's highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, go on heart-tugging skydive jaunts, make his own action movie, go on off-road challenges on all- terrain vehicles, race camels in Dubai, jump into thin air by parachute across the Victoria Falls straddling Zimbabwe and Zambia - and then go on white-water rafting escapades.

The competition is open to males between the ages of 18 and 40. Contestants will travel to various locations across South Africa and other exotic destinations all over the world, including Nevada in the US, China for some time on the Great Wall of China and Zanzibar in Tanzania.

Among the celebrities who took their chances on the stunts - at the Thabazimbi Morula adventure resort in Thabazimbi, North West, on Tuesday - were Top Billing presenter Lorna Maseko, Metro FM DJ Paul "Bad Boy T" Msengana, his wife and Idols judge Unathi Msengana, top model Sonia Booth, and petite television personality Lalla Hirayama.

Maseko, who is also a ballet-trained dancer, dismally failed to walk successfully on the tightrope.

She managed to walk half-way along the rope, but then slipped and fell into the water.

Booth walked successfully across, holding tightly on to the balancing rope before exclaiming loudly as she ultimately made it to safety - proving to be a study of inspirational balance.

"Given another opportunity I would do it again," she said, breathing heavily.

Not even gulping two glasses of beer - apparently to summon some courage - could help Bad Boy T.

He only managed to walk about 10m on the rope and then fell into the water.

Sadly Unathi also fumbled, just as she was about to make it to safety.

Hirayama was the fastest tightrope walker. She balanced carefully and persevered until she finished the challenge safely - all in about five minutes.

Auditions for ordinary men - out of whom only one stands to become the second instant celebrity after De Beer - will take place in Durban on February 23, in Johannesburg on February 25 and in Cape Town on February 26.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

She is a very beautiful
woman. For my curiosity
I wonder how you look like?
In this case the reason you
attack people from the comfort
of your computer is because you're
so envious.
