My music aims to teach and heal, says Shangaan disco king
"I enjoy music more than anything else in my life," Thomas Hasani Chauke, a well-known Xitsonga musician in Limpopo, says.
"And today I am proud to say we are a family with the spirit of music," he says with a smile.
Chauke hails from Saselamani near Malamulele in Limpopo.
He was 10 years old when he joined the music industry.
Now, having been in the industry for many decades, he has 30 albums under his belt and has just dropped his thirty-firstoffering.
Chauke's latest CD, entitled Dokodela, is available in music stores.
The CD has 10 tracks that include the songs Dokodela, Movha, Utswale nyama and Mbavha.
Chauke was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Venda two years ago.
He says his music expresses thoughts and feelings about humanity.
"All my songs have messages that teach, heal, educate and entertain my listeners."
"My songs are about families, parents, love, social problems, marriage, youth and nation building," he says.
"Were it not for my love of music I would have been discouraged a long time ago."
He says it was not easy to make his mark and he used to ride a distance of about 100km on his bicycle to market his work.
Chauke has won 15 Sama awards and two special awards, triple platinum and a multi-platinum, that were awarded by CCP during the launch of Shimatsatsa no 31 at Munghana Lonene FM.
He says he is working on his wife's third album Xibombi no 3.
