The world dances to SA house tunes

INTERNATIONAL music producer Low Deep T says South African house music is the hottest thing in the world stages at the moment.

Low Deep is in the country for the Vodacom Unlimited Urban Beat House Afrika Tour that started on Saturday at Chaf Pozi in Soweto, Johannesburg.

The UK star shot his video on Monday last week in South Africa.

Regarded as one of the house gurus, he says everywhere in the world people are crazy about our local sound.

"South African sound is the thing at the moment and everybody wants it. I could not believe when Real Madrid, after one of their matches, played Black Coffee's song Juju and the players were dancing to the music."

Low Deep says local sound has been able to stand against the best in the international music arena because of its originality.

"South African sound is different because of its vibey and Afro elements in it. That is why everyone finds it fascinating."

Low Deep will perform at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on December 16. He moves to Cofi in Polokwane on Saturday.

With many young DJs relying on re-remixing already released songs, Low Deep says it's better for musicians to produce their own music.

"If you compile someone else's song you will never know if you are growing in the industry. But I guess those who want quick fame prefer to do that."

Low Deep arguably has the deepest and biggest soulful vocals in today's house music.

He arrived on the house scene with his first single Music Licensed.

As much as he has produced good music, Low Deep still does not regard himself as a musician.

"I like to call myself a songwriter and music producer than a musician."

He recently released his album Big Love, which he says is doing well.
