Soapie star in hospital

GENERATIONS heart-throb Menzi Ngubane is in high care

GENERATIONS heart-throb Menzi Ngubane has been hospitalised in Johannesburg since Saturday and is said to be suffering from an undisclosed ailment.

A source close to the family of the talented actor told Sowetan that his condition was serious.

Ngubane, who has iconised the role of Sibusiso Dlomo - a powerful media mogul - in Generations, is according to other sources close to him suffering from a liver-related disease.

"We have just heard that he is not looking good. In fact, he is bad," the source said.

Generations producers and the SABC yesterday confirmed that Ngubane had fallen ill, but gave no further details about the nature of his ailment. They said he was in a stable condition.

"Menzi Ngubane, who plays Sibusiso (Ngamla) Dlomo in the daily drama Generations, has fallen ill and is under high care in hospital," a statement from the producers said.

"Doctors confirm that the actor is on medication and his condition is stable. The Generations producers are in contact with the relevant medical personnel and trust Menzi's recovery is in their capable hands.

"The cast and crew were informed of the actor's condition by producers and wish him a speedy recovery.

"The actor will remain with Generations and will rejoin the production once his health is restored. The family requests that the actor's privacy be respected and that his healing process is not hampered by press, media, or well-meaning fans," the statement said.

"Menzi Ngubane is one of SABC1's key icons and is held in high-esteem by millions of our viewers nationwide. Our prayers are with him during this challenging period in his life."

Ngubane also appears in a new gangster movie How to Steal 2 Million, directed by young filmmaker Charlie Vundla.
