Singers differ over solo album

SOCIAL butterfly and member of the gay group 3Sum, Koyo Bala, is furious after his fellow bandmate, Amstel Maboa, recorded a solo album behind his back.

An annoyed Bala told Sowetan that he only learnt about the matter a few days ago. He said someone whispered that Maboa was recording an album featuring Mathabetha Jobo.

"People told me that he was busy recording an album with someone. I was shocked because he did not tell me anything about it.

"I thought we were in good terms. We had a performance together just before the Easter and everything seemed fine."

Bala said he was further irritated to learn that Maboa offered to do gigs as an individual each time promoters wanted to book the group.

"This makes me sick because it is not only killing the 3Sum brand but taking food out of my mouth," said Bala.

But Maboa said he made it clear to Bala that he wanted to do a solo album even before their fellow bandmate Jeff Moyo died last year.

"I told them that I wanted to do a solo album and nobody said anything. I assumed they were fine with it.

" I am a musician at the end of the day, 3Sum will still be there but Amstel will operate under different management," he said.
