No bad taste in album
CONTROVERSIAL Durban kwaito musician Nkosinathi Mfeka, aka Mgarimbe, is back with a smashing new album, Grand Entrance.
The album is astounding fans with its pure and clean lyrics.
The hit song Sister Bethina put him on the map a few years ago with its explicitly vulgar lyrics.
He says the new album "signifies my formal return to the music industry as a changed person and a progression from the vulgar and trash talk I'm known for".
The album is released under his recording label Kasi 99.
The 27-year-old muso says the album was inspired by his tribulations while trying to be someone that he wasn't and the pressures of living the Joburg life of fast cars and the high life.
"My father's death was a wake-up call and I decided to come back home to my family. His death gave me a new perspective on life," he says.
"I have learnt a lot in the four-year break and I was working towards starting my own recording company.
"Music should have a positive message, it is not only about making people dance and enjoy the music," he says.
Hailing from the sprawling township of Umlazi, south of Durban, the business management student-turned-kwaito star says in his new album people are going to be blown away by how much he has grown.
"It might be hard to believe that I come from a very religious family. My parents were very disappointed about the song Sister Bethina.
"My mother was very cross and still cannot believe that I was the one singing that song," he says.
He says his fans are going to notice that he is embracing life, love and all the important things in life.
Deeply inspired by the sounds of Skeem & Chiskop back in the day, this lad has worked with a number of musicians "to keep the kwaito fires burning".
As a proud Durban boy, Mgarimbe does not move away from the popular eThekwini rhyming style coupled with the fresh sounds from local DJ's.
"This is a fun album; all the 12 songs are filled with joy, fun and laughter. The hit, Ayi Ngamawala, has already taken the airwaves by storm.
"I have my own issues but I always try to put aside my issues and put people's needs first."
