House music just gets better
HOUSE and dance music have taken off in a big way locally, but they are not new phenomena.
DJs Oskido, Fresh and Glen Lewis have always been at the forefront of house and dance music.
DJ Muzi.GP has redefined house music. DJ Muzi.GP, whose real name is Vusumuzi Ntatshana, pictured, has brought fresh talent to the genre and this will hopefully see house music getting the recognition it deserves.
Born in Standerton in Mpumalanga, he has just released his fourth house album, Platinum. With only five years in the industry, the young DJ is slowly making a name for himself.
DJ Muzi's latest album is well balanced. It has a commercial sound and is improved with maskandi and mbaqanga elements.
"I grew up listening to mbaqanga and maskandi. Groups such as Imitshotshovu, Soul Brothers and Bhekumuzi were my favourites," he explains.
"I have tried to use that and improve it with modern house sounds," he says.
For his latest album, DJ Muzi says he really pulled his socks up.
"I wanted to release something that retailers, consumers and even the Sama judges cannot ignore. I did not want my offering to be just another album in the market," he says.
DJ Muzi says he fell in love with house music when he was in high school. He became a professional in 2007 with his first successful hit, Muhle.
In 2008, he released Muzimania - Now or Never, which featured Falling in love, I Need U. And last year he released Muzimania - Unleashed.
