Oh no, Mr President

Jul 2, 2012 | Sowetan Editorial | 100 comments

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma seems to have taken a cue from some of the most vicious dictators the African continent has ever had. He wants to be the only one to bear the title "president".

The dictator does not go around the streets, beating drums and singing
and tells everyone his intensions. The dictator is power hungry and
bully those who are against his views. He places his opponents in Kangaroo.
Courts. The dictator demands respect, which is earned. The dictator calls
the Youth of the country, the future generation a “nations of thugs”. The
dictator threatens that those who protest for poor services delivery the
police will act harshly on the them. The dictator remotes control the security
of the country. The dictator will do anything to be in power, including selling
his soul and conscious. The dictator will speak in his inferior language to
the whole nations whereby majority are not part of such affiliation.

@Sowetan & Press Club hands off Mr President! You know exactly that whatever was agreed on at Midrand was a collective ideas. But, since you and your entourage Press Club are always putting the President and his Executive on the bad light. You try to munipalte us (public) to have negative inputs against our own. If you report things that you have facts of not to create wrong impression, fueling hatred and ill debate against our president.

I am not a party member, but I like to respect my leaders as per God's intruction. Respect does not limit one from voicing out good critics. But not the system/platform you are using to mobilise the public against the leaders.

@Sowetan and Press Club go and revive your mandate of reporting> are you for the development of this country or against it. You dont report good and inspirational tidings. Look every sunday what you fedd us with>cheater, marital infidility, forgery of qualifications. According to me that does not need my attention. You need to tag that individual yourself, they will be found out on their own.

Lets recap since you came into power, you showed up, anc split into cope and others splinters went into the DA, who knows if you are given a second chance, you prolly are that second coming we are told about....lol

I dont support our president, but I think he is doing a good thing by taking the presidency title away from sub-divisions. I think that there are just too many chiefs in the ANC, and everyone wants to call the shots as if they are the president of the ruling party. I dont think that it is about dictatorship. Its more about control and that there is only 1 chief. I mean, for any company, there is the CEO at the top, then everyone else is below. It`s just the way it is.

It doesnt matter who brings service delivery to people "sweep street or dustbin" as long as we get the services due to us.
the reason why Zuma is making an issue out of this is because he knows he is incompetent and wants to buy time. Okay he is the only president in the country and what now.... people wants water and electricity not tittels..

I think that the structure of the ANC is in tatters. In order for policies to carried out effectively, the ruling party must get its structure right. As i said, there is only 1 Chief. The rest work below him.
Malema thought he was bigger than the president, because he was ANCYL president. This should not equate to president because the ANCYL is sub to the ANC.
Names are very important in organisations. It is very important that there is a correct structure with proper name tags so that people know exactly what their positions are.

Yes, I agree. Zuma is not delivering, so naturally people will think that he is being petty with such issues.

but, if we expand on this a little further, Zuma is not the only one in the ANC. In as much as he is president, I do believe that his team is incompetent to deal with any issues. He has no formal education. So, he is up there with policies that he reads out every now and then, but he does not really understand.
Zuma is the president of the ANC. We must hold the whole organisation accountable for taking us on this sorry path. We must use our votes to vote this organisation out, and bring someone in who will undeerstand that you do not need a policy conference to deal with service delivery protests.
The problem statement of that 2nd transition report was that the government is concerned about service delivery protest, and they think this has to do with vast inequalities. They are so wrong. People on the ground are fighting for basic services that councils are incompetent to do.

This is just mostly an American English verb to relate to a leader who the bug stop with! I think it have been relatively abused and used in inappropriately by majority of people all over the world. Is like the word Chairperson / man / woman, they both relate to the apex level of a superiority and suggest nothing more! I think the President of all the ANC related wings should be only one, as such a certain superiority and essence of leadership will be associated with only one person who is the President! As such I suggest that in a bit to bring back the dignity and trust that have been lost, the word ANC President should relate to only the President of the mother body! Others should all be called the Chairpersons like Comrade Baleka Mbete so that we can redeem back the verb President to be associated with people of extreme high quality who cannot insult others exposing their idiotic tendencies associated with arrogance and unnecessary anger!!

After all, Zuma will decide on what to do. Who are we to tell Zuma what to do?

Your opinionyana don't count.

I often wonder what is the driver force behind zuma's calling for second term? cause initially this guy wanted to do only one term, is it the guptas or communists behind this second term as they know they have more to benefit should that happen? nevertheless, it was quite funny watching anc leaders in Midrand trying to over explain themselves (second phase transition) or whatever the hell they call this mob gravy train, these ppl are hilarious actually the ony thing that is said is that we have to pay for this comedy disguised as gov.

@DJ you see you zuma ppl don't understand democracy concept, no one leader can unilaterally decide on behalf of everyone else, unless of course those who chose such a leader are fools devoid of any ability to think and decide what is right for themselves,

@Madlenya zuma wants to be the ONLY b*ll in the kraal *laughing* I often wonder how long will the anc tolerate this for, I think anc's biggest mistake was to appoint the communist in the NEC, cause they have voting powers and blade has a lot riding on this with zuma's second term, I mean from being inkunzi at Inkathagate now to being potential VP, Tjo imagine blades grof face as SA's VP *hides* and all the bling that comes with it, I am sure blade can't wait to b#y his own Boeing!

and zuma wld do well to remember that SAn tax payers pay his salary to do the work for SA not facilitate his vendetta over a silly boy (malema) cause all this is advancement of malemazuma fight, its a fact malema is outstaging zuma at every opportunity, look at all media articles where malema is quoted to have said soemthign, they get more hits than zuma, and zuma has even adopted some of malema rhetoric, zuma needs to buy himself some personality and originality, cause he fuses into everyone's personality if that guarantees him popular ism.

The dance thing, he tried to be like Madiba cause Madiba used to charm the audience with his famous Madiba shuffle, but what Zuma doesn't have is originality, Madiba was authentic zuma is a fake everything about him is a fake,

zuma if you had substance you wouldn't be threatened by anything malema says or does, you would not feel the need to compete with him as a moron, if you had substance and credibility the nation would throw their weight behind you since malema is the state enemy number with his moronic rhetoric, wena you can't even make yourself interesting or popular even when you have wrestled malema out of the anc, you have used your time in office to settle scores with ppl who are nto even in gov, cause some of us are wondering when you will you finally focus on the job at hand than pursuing your malema vendetta, do you think you were going to be a national hero when you had malema expelled from the anc? As things stand it looks like even in that you were not effective, cause Malema still enjoys support from his followers wena you still remain a moron, you are now starting to look like a jilted lover who is not able to let go, hence you plan everything around malema, I am sure you have wet dreams about him. You are a supreme loser and tosser who is wasting our time and tax, that's why I am never going to respect you!

And the anc will one day wake up from its slumber and throw you out of the organisation cause you are useless and have brought them into disrepute.

I cannot wait for the Mangaung circus, so that we can all go on with our lives. Can we also ask the comrades at Luthuli House and their cronies to use their energy to deliver basic amenities to the masses, who voted them in power. Really, who cares about the word President?

When our President was inagurated, he forgot to whisper to someone that he is the President of the country and in charge, hence we are debating this useless issue. Real leaders are not threatened by such.

@Makhosini0408 we shouldn't have to pin our hopes on Manguang circus the anc should do the right thing and recall zuma since most of them know he was a plkn factory fault, they should recall him and save themselves further embarrassment, they should cut their loses as you know they lost a lot of votes with Cope break-away and other splinters joining alternative political parties and now if they reward him with second term for being BS then the anc deserve to be collapsed to the floor in order to save this country

The only way of saving us from this typical African dictatorialship is to vote the anc out of goverment.
But yet then they would prepare themselves to go back to ARM STRUGLE. This time the only place for Exiles is the shacks in the neighboughhood.

Angie Motshekga, doesn't have a strong character, she still has a s.l.a.v.e mentality, that a woman's place is in the kitchen.

ANCWL, under her is so voiceless, you'd even forget its existence, she's trying by all means to be in Nkandla man's good books

An extract from Blade Nzimande on articles like these:

An interesting development that many media houses have developed is what one would call a ‘PR’ stance of using internal OMBUDS. These Ombuds appear to accept many of the challenges we are raising. However this seems to be self-serving rather than genuine. If it were genuine we would be seeing different media products with better quality of analysis. For example there seems to be no effort to enforce a balance between factual reporting, opinion and analyses. The good old journalistic principle of seeking to tell a story factually seems to have gone out of the window. It has been replaced by innuendos and dubious anonymous sources. While there may be genuine reasons for anonymous sources from time to time, there cannot be total dependence on these as is the case these days. Where are the internal Ombudsmen when this kind of journalism becomes the norm?

Brown envelope reporting at its best.

This is not news neither it is investigative journalism but some ckufed up thought of an individual who is biased (Motlanthe/Tokyo/DA supporter)

Althought I dont like Zuma but I refuse to be feed with some biased thoughts from the media. Media is suppossed to report facts and not opinion.
