Now we smell a rat
THE mystery surrounding Mulomowandau Mathoho deepened after the player failed to attend the unveiling of the club's new signings in Johannesburg.
Now we ask ourselves when the Mathoho saga will come to an end.
Last week we were made to believe the deal was sealed but this week it emerged that he has no contract with the Soweto Glamour Boys.
Instead of unveiling the towering Bafana Bafana and Bloemfontein Celtic centre-back, Chiefs unveiled a mannequin of Mathoho.
Mathoho is on record as wanting to play for Chiefs, so what is delaying his signing?
We smell the rat.
We have reached a level where we will not be surprised if Mathoho resurfaces somewhere other than Naturena.
We suspect Mathoho or his club might have been tempted by a lucrative offer elsewhere. Chiefs are negotiating at R5-million and are competing with filthy rich and free-spending Mamelodi Sundowns for his signature.
It will be unfortunate, though, if Celtic decided to take the boy to another club because of money ahead of his happiness.
We are not suggesting that it's a bad decision for Matholo to choose Chiefs ahead of Downs, but we say let him be allowed to follow his heart and move to Naturena. You can't have an unhappy player in the team and expect him to deliver.
