'Ramphele for SA president'

I WOULD like to applaud one of South Africa's brainy woman who has such impeccable struggle credentials and yet she continues to display such exceptional independent thinking.

I like your article but i think there are things you left behind regarding Mamphele Ramphele..she is a board chairman of one of the largest gold producing companies in the country and as one of the people from this industry i think she doesn't prioritize cause people of mines including the one she heads doesn't have benefit of some constitutional rights and she is busy dealing with issues she is not paid for while giving important issues that shud lead to transformation a cold shoulder.I think its too early to think of her as President...at this point Kgalema is the only potential and suitable candidate

I'd agree with you that Kgalema for ANC president in Mangaung but not for the ZAR Presidency because he is scared of ANC hyena's he will do what Zuma did, he lacks independence. Too dependent on Luthuli house and he will be corrupted easily once he is in power,
There's lots Hyena's pursuing government business in Luthuli house and they will use his lack of independence to push their business interests

With due respect Shredder why do you say its not going to happen? We in South Africa should give women a chance to rule, ANC should learn to accept criticism, in South Africa we have potential leaders (women) the likes of Nkosazana Zuma, Thuli Madonsela, Ramphele, Breytenbach, ex-vice state president mrs Ngcuka etc we have a lot,we need nation building, we need to regain the trust of the people and the international community, OUR IMAGE IS DENTED. If ANC still believes in passing te ball from this one to the other one because it is his turn it is not going to work, let the ball come out of that kraal. LOOK AT GERMANY.

Lets not compare moral compasses to Zuma. At least Ramphele did the right thing in the mentioned circumstances. Zuma is still 'applying his mind' to Cele and Mdludli. To mention two names.

This article is quite a relief from what we read the other day; a blogger who hurled insults (matlhapa) at Mamphele; that I even wanted a place to hide despite the fact that I was in the comfort of my home.

But let's put certain things straight here:
1. constituency based system is premature; bcos u risk having "ME" as president;
no revolutionary agenda; no people's needs at heart; but just "ME"
2. let's have her as part of the collective; we'll be adding to the cool heads in govt
3. we cannot risk reversing the gains made so far; by replacing the current electoral system;
yes, the current crop is making matters worse; but I think even Ms. Zille accepts that we still need a revolutionary movement for the current conditions in the country

But Puleng, all credit is yours for praising Mme Ramphele.

Being an armchair critic, work for World Bank, share COPE's ideology and ideas, is that what makes her Presidential hopeful, being a President especially in this SA, needs somebody who does not please the few elite black (tenderpreneurs) with their white minority friends who feels their status and colour is threatened by majority, SA needs somebody who'll transform, firstly close the race gap, end previleges by virtue of your colour or creed, the thruth is millions of Blacks in this country still leave far below poverty line, and have to scrap for food in the dumping sites, to say it lightly, if SA can lend uncle Bob (Mugabe) for one year to help straighten up race graph, and thereafter we can talk economy

The lists of companies found to be overprising, colluding, anti competitive practise etc is endless yet the Norman Mashaba's, Ruel Khoza, DR Mamphele etc of this world have audacity to say business is not enemy of the society. They never bark at one of their own elite group.

They are riding on the weakness and corruptness of the ANC as if they are holly then them. If they have influence in their areas of operations, what has mining sector done for the poor, more especially areas where mines are located, and what Nedbank has done for black struggling SMME's.

Does she have any record of running a country, what experience does she have to run a country we are tied of trial and error Presidents, people who come into power and are forever on a learning curve. I say give the job of running the country to scientist, engineers, accountants, technicians and all who is responsible for the actual physical building of the country and not someone who is going to setup comission after comission, conference after conference, summit after summit discussing the samethings over and over( how can we improve service delivery and better the lives of many, fight climate or global warming, end world hunger, end crime, end wars, end abuse in general, find a cure for Aids) for all this time we've given politicians chance after chance to run the world we are still faced with the same problems and they have failed to solve any problem the world is currently facing, politicians don't solve problems they are part of the problem and will contineu to be as long as they are in power, but for whatever reason people will contineu to vote for the next politicaly minded guy even if the previous politicaly minded guy didn't solve anything, a politician can't built roads, can't build or engineer bridges, can't build schools or end porverty, they can't even give proper morals to society, I say political rule must come to an end, same as emporer rulers came to an end, kingship rulers came to an end, political systems have faild to run this world.

We can have good president but lets admit, to build country you need active citizenry. Africans once they obtain degrees, live cities or suburbs, earn big money they do not participate in their community development. Black people are basking in the whitemans glory. Living a whiteman life gives black people a ticket to status, big mouth, laziness,looking down upon rural & uneducated people.

White folks, even if they are rich they belong to NGOs either as funders or activists and are active in their communities. Whites look after their communities and they fight for one of their own. Thina we cannot. The country will only be great, the day we learn to confront our individual, collective, society weaknesses.

This pointing finger game delays progress.

Everytime you listen to an ANC politician, you listening to the one who's primary interest is to have power, and wealth! He has nothing to do with development, better life, good health care, good eduction, access to food etc. HE/SHE has nothing to do with people. Most ANC members's interests is to make a living out of politics, to have job, tenders etc. they have nothing to do with politics - let alone development!!! That is why most ANC members do not even understand the policy of the ANC. Guess what: these are the indiviuduals who will be your Mayors, Councillors, MEC, Ministers etc
