This incident is disgusting and Mr Koen should be "nailed to the wall". His principal as well, for allowing it to happen at his/her school.
However, the writer makes an asumption regarding Mr Koen, and then, based on that very uncertain assumption, the validity of which I would strongly question, she makes comments about "the white community". She assumes that Koen holds Mandela in regard, and then suggest that the regard others have for the man is false. One assumes form the fact that this is headed up as "Sowetan Editorial" that this is the view of the Editor of this paper, and if that is indeed the case, this is grossly irresponsible, and divisive. Dear Editor, I strongly object to the view you voice, and cannot help but see echoes of Boesak's highly flawed and downright arrogant and misleading article published yesterday. Whoa just there people.it is a little more nuanced than that. The story I read is that this Bokkie Week is not an official event of any sort, but part of an Afrikaner cultural event. The organizers have said that because of affirmative action policies in sport at school level, many Afrikaner kids do not get a chance to participate at a higher level. Right or wrong, this is true : I have seen it myself - because of quota requirements, better w.hite players often have to see how bl.ack kids get chosen ahead of them. I am not saying this is wrong, unfortunatel w.hite kids do to an extent have to pay for the sins of their fathers.
The point is that, if a community decides to have such an event - not sponsored by or under the auspices of any government organization, in order to give kids from a section of the population that is at the receiving end of affirmative action policies , a chance to participate at a higher level, be barred form doing so ?

@ MommaC, I don't think you are getting the point, it is certainly not about victim mentality, it's exactly the opposite. You see, the disabled lepers could go and sit in a corner and cry and ask the government to do something to help them ( remind you of anyone) or they can simply decide to entertain themselves, arrange their own sporting and cultural events, etc. They would also want to improve their lots by starting their own companies for example, and they can do this, except of course once they become succesfull and they want to start doing big business, they will have to hand over at least 50% of that business to someone who loathes them because they are disabled lepers. So the disabled lepers are chased away from government and when they do their own thing instead, and become succesfull at that, they are again stymied.

That is the littlest violin I ever saw :)
Calling me a leper isn't going to make me feel sorry for myself or make me believe that I am. My clan survived the English concentration camps so they are certainly tough enough to survive a bit of valid competition without suddenly getting a victim mentality.
My heart goes out to the young lady. What was done to her was wrong. To humiliate her like that purely due to the colour of her skin makes me want to go around slapping Afrikaans speaking people - and I am one!

The solution is very simple, close all these schools and don't allow them to operate. If the perpetrators are known and there is proof.. arrest and convict them for Treason.Report Abuse

So the disabled lepers are chased away from government and when they do their own thing instead, and become succesfull at that, they are again stymied.Don't worry MommaC I am not crying, I am still quite happy to be a disabled leper.

corneliusThe problem with your theory is that you are self imposing the leper status upon yourself. Nobody said you should walk around with a bell and only associate with the diseased. Its self inflicted.
If my child had been sent by her coach to go for trials and was then turned away because of her skin colour, I wouldn't give a tinkers toss how foolish the excuse was. I'd simply be furious that she was humiliated and marginalised.

No MC, the story I read stated that it was an invitations only event, tthe child turned up on her own initiative. Who knows what to believe, but it would be surprising if this child ( and her coach if he/she was involved) did not know what the score was on this event. Actually quite possible that she entered precisely to raise this kind of a scandal.Anyway I am tired of this story now.

Doctor-who - LOL, ur kidding right? In that case, due to the BMF, all black owned businesses should be shut down, and those people guilty of excluding others not of the same skin colour, should be tried for treason.Report Abuse
