Stop fooling the people

THE country versus club saga has reared its ugly head again and Premier Soccer League clubs have once again denied Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane some of the players he selected for the national squad.

He did not get all the players he had picked for an away international friendly against 2012 Africa Cup of Nations co-hosts Equatorial Guinea tonight.

This scourge is beginning to bore us out of our skulls and something radical must be done to arrest thisembarrassing situation.

The country versus club saga played itself out this week despite the seemingly congenial relationship between the South African Football Association and the Premier Soccer League.

Safa and the PSL have led us to believe they have acordial relationship, butMosimane's problems tell adifferent story.

Safa and the PSL have a joint liaison committee in which representatives of the two parties regularly come together to discuss matters of mutual interest - but still they cannot find a solution to this problem.

We are told that at their last joint meeting Safa committed themselves toassisting Mosimane at future matches.

Bafana will also playZambia and Ghana but these will be practise matches.

Interestingly, Mosimane did not have all his selectedplayers when they flew out to Equatorial Guinea onTuesday night.

Is Safa doing enough to get the cooperation of the PSL when it comes to the release of players? The answer is no, and Safa should stop fooling the nation.

Though tonight's match is on the Safa calender and clubs are obliged to release their players, the match is meaningless for Bafana.

How are we going to benefit from playing againstEquatorial Guinea? The same goes for Zambia and Ghana.

Remember that the rules of the game are thrown out of the window in such matches. But Safa want us to believe they are important. They should organise competitive international matches for Bafana to prepare them for the 2013 Afcon and 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
