Early sex will spoil your future

Sep 3, 2010 | READER COMMENT: Lucas Malau | 7 comments

WE FREQUENTLY hear about the increase in teenage pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases across our country.

I appeal to teenagers who engage in sexual activity: think about your future.

Being a parent is a huge responsibility and it cannot be taken lightly. Pregnancy often results in young girls having to drop out of school.

In addition, some sexually transmitted diseases (STD) such as HIV-Aids cannot be cured.

Abstinence is the best way to avoid both pregnancy and STD.

Another option is contraception - and preferably using condoms. Both options decrease your chances of falling pregnant or of contracting an STD.

It is a mistake to regard sex as purely physical. Being sexually active has huge psychological implications, even if you avoid becoming pregnant or contracting an STD.

If you are a teen and considering becoming sexually active, discuss the matter with a parent, trusted teacher, social worker or nurse at your local clinic.

And under no circumstances should you become sexually active because your peers or romantic partners are putting pressure on you.

Don't be in a hurry to get into physical relationships. Once you start, you will find no reason for stopping. Don't be in a hurry to grow up and join the difficult adult world.

If people really care for you, they won't expect you to do something you are not ready for.

Always remember, rather be safe than sorry.

We truly need more men who thinks like you Lucas. Great read. Only if our youngsters would listen. I was 25 when I got pregnant with my daughter and now I'm pregnant again although I was using a condom with my ex. Now either he cheated me in to believing that he was using it or something else must have happened. I'm angry because I could have contracted any of the diseases mentioned.

I wish the young girls out there can read this article ! Its a pity cause it seems like somebody is brainwashing them into believing that holding baby in your teens is the lattest accesory.
I am not even going to mention the risks that they put themselves in by having unprotected sex.
Ngempela ayibaleki mos uzoyidla kahle when you are more mature.
