Pravin announces probe into impropriety claims at Financial and Fiscal Commission

“Anonymous allegations of impropriety concerning actions of staff members” of the Financial and Fiscal Commission were addressed in a meeting with Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan.

A Treasury statement on Monday said the meeting took place on Friday.

“The allegations have been shared with the members of the commission‚” it said. “The commission will‚ with the assistance of the National Treasury‚ appoint an external service provider to investigate the veracity of the allegations.”

 The commission’s mandate is to make recommendations to Parliament‚ provincial legislatures‚ organised local government and other organs of state on financial and fiscal matters as envisaged in the Constitution and other national legislation.

The Treasury statement also noted that the “term of office of Bongani Khumalo as deputy chairperson‚ acting chairperson and chief executive officer” of the commission ended on August 31.
